I saw that you wanted me to help you with this sandbox. It's been a while since I've been back and did some stuff. The original creator of the portal template is Tierrie. He has also made a Portal v2 here. If you want I can see if I can get it to work inside your wiki. But he does do a good job explaining where things go, usually :) I hope this helps and sorry about the wait.
By the buttons, I mean the ones that say Start a Chat, or Edit, or Contribute, or Vote! By the navigation bar, I mean the bar that says On the Wiki. if you look at es.destiny.wikia.com or something like that, that's what I mean by customising.
When you see :hover at the end of an element's name, that means the following styling is applied only to the hover state of the element. If there is no :hover, then the styling is applied to the default (non-hover) state.
Looking closer at the buttons CSS I posted, I see that all of them are for the hover state. My bad! To define the normal (non-hover) appearance of the various button elements, just copy-paste that block of CSS and delete every instance of :hover. Then adjust the background-color value to whatever you want.
To find these, I went to Special:AllMessages, chose 5,000 from the "Items per page" drop-down menu (because there are a LOT of them), and pressed Ctrl+F to bring up the browser's find feature and typed "reply".
I see that you deleted the CSS code after adding it. Try adding it again, then waiting a few minutes and purging your browser cache using Ctrl+F5 (Cmd+F5 if you're on a Mac). If that doesn't work, add ?action=purge to the end of the URL for the main page. If that still doesn't work, let me know.
Actually, it is. The main page has zero opacity (totally transparent) and has no border. The difference is that when you asked for it, the following CSS code didn't exist at MediaWiki:Wikia.css.
border: 2px solid black;
background: #2b2b2b url("http://cdn.twitrcovers.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Abstract-Science-Fiction-l.jpg") no-repeat fixed center top !important;
That addition is defining a background color and image for all pages. To stop that from affecting the main page, add background: transparent; to the CSS for .mainpage .WikiaPage. So that will look like this:
Add the CSS that I listed to Wikia.css. I realized that the background CSS that applies this image to all pages has !important on it, which will override any other styling. That means that background: transparent; for the main page CSS will also need !important to avoid being overridden. So just copy/paste this:
Unclosed divs are definitely something you want to avoid, and that was the first thing I noticed, but apparently that wasn't the cause of this specific error on the main page. By process of elimination, I confirmed that Template:Portal/About is causing the problem.
Two things that I noticed were wrong there are:
The <center> tag does not have a </center> tag to close it.
The paragraph tags - <p> and </p> - that wrap the ==What is Hall of Heroes?== heading are not needed.
I would suggest fixing both of those issues on that template and see if that fixes the main page.
It seems that you want to apply styling to the whole content area of the main page (left and right columns).
You can achieve this without using those two (currently unclosed) divs on each column. Using the .mainpage class, you can apply all those styles to just the main page's content area (WikiaArticle) without having to insert divs. I've copied all of the styles from ComponentBackground and the two inline styles on the divs and put them into the block below.
Ok, great news is that as a new wiki, I understand why things are the way they are. I am trying to figure out what this wiki is meant for, so you will need to try to clear it up, both on the main page, and for an about the main genre itself. For example, Elder scrolls wiki had an article just about the game series, then an article for each game.
I would look for other editors to help expand things. If this is connected to a larger universe like marvel or DC, see if you can work with them, both of those wikis are very helpful when it comes to their sibling sites.
For now, things are looking ok for a new page. So keep it up, building a wiki takes time, the Elder scrolls wiki is still growing and learning.
If you need any help, just ask. I have always believed in wikis helping each other, so if you have any problems there are editors on Elder scrolls who will be glad to help.
Ok, here is my User:Cheatcodechamp/Sandbox. I do not think you need most of what we use. We are one of the largest wikis, and have a massive fanbase. Some of the things would not be of use to you or this wiki for some time, if ever. I think you can adapt some of it, mainly the smaller poll and our slider. If you unlock your front page for alittle bit, I can see if I can add them to the page and clean it up some. Or you can do it yourself, either way works
I see it. I am going to try and clean it up some. this wiki doesn't have guilds, so that section isn't needed. I would see out wikis similar to this one and see if they will become affiliates if you want that section still. Like I said, a lot of our stuff is designed for larger wikis, so the trick is to take what you need and adapt it.
As the template was made on our wiki, we added our initials to it. Dont worry, I renamed the news article, although I think that may end up being removed, as forum post would work better. I edited a few of the characters articles. I think you should look at the format changes and new categories. Categories help organize things better so having some for gender and status are important. Just do not over do it, some categories do not help much.
I moved the lead line under the infobox so things would line up better. I also moved the "br" to after the lines they are meant to split, and lines them up better. If you look at an articles edit history, you can review changes and see what I did.
Also, as this is your baby, and I am just here to help, please let me know if I cross a line. This is your wiki and your content, and I am here to help, not take over.
